Thanks a lot for that!

My problem was similar: Many textAreas in a vBox-container not willing to talk about their height nor width. Even when assigning a fixed value for height and width the textWidth and textHeight tells a wrong value.

Just wanted to add something that might help others. I made a script to dynamically add loads of text from XML as seperate TextAreas and Labels etc. Trouble was the number of lines was being misreported by Flash. Turned out that using a specific width rather than a percentage for each TextArea did the trick, took me ages to figure it out.

All is working fine now :)

Looks good, I wished this longtime ago, had a look at 'Finder Window Manager' scripts (http://www.jonn8.com/fwm/)but I got an error at 'size' of the line 'set {menuBarWidth, menuBarHeight} to size of UI element 1 of application process "SystemUIServer"' : says "acces for assistive device disabled" and I can't find what to do to enable 'it'. Leopard 10.5.6, display 1920x1600 any ideas how I could fix it?

Great script. Note that this will not work as expected for folks with dual displays - the script seems to use the combined width of both displays to determine the size and positioning of the windows. So you end up with really wide windows that span multiple displays.

Hey Mark,

'some' is whatever object you want to save. Think of it as myObject.

dat.structure = myStructureObject.

So that could be a XML, pretty sure, or Array, or String... Just not a DisplayObject (such as Button).

Great post - it's interesting to see how early adopters of twitter are now fighting against the seemingly slow-mo tipping point it's now experiencing. Its success is positive news however - mass audiences mean more chance of it gaining revenues. Though from what exactly, nobody knows. I suspect we're going to see a big shake up of the socnet market as the promised ad revenues fail to materialise.

Hey David. I agree about the fantastic apps that are coming out. It's only recently that we've seen venture capitalist putting a dime in Air related startups.

That said, it's a very positive thing for Air and I'm myself working after hours on Air exclusively now.

Things turn around quickly. This post was written in May 2008, since then, more than 6 months have passed. And a lot happens in 6 months in technology.

Cheers.

AIR is anything but a failure. It's been a year. Give it two more and then you can make a statement like that.

There are going to be some ridiculously good AIR applications, but that won't happen until the particular developers that are going to produce them have had a sufficient chance to invade the platform, get comfortable with it, and then produce.

I was just looking for a script like this so I was happy to find this, unfortunately I can't get this to work. It hangs on getUserScreen() when trying to get the size of dock and menubar, so I tried to just set those to static values, then it ran through the script but failed at the end instead and threw error code 25211.

Any ideas?
